why is Estonia moving the statue of the Red Army soldier?
Q. I though the Red Army drove the Nazis out of Estonia during WW2; so why would Estonia take away this monument? I might be missing some of the story or history, if so please let me know, i appreciate it. Thank You.

A. They probably took it down as an act of sovereignty saying they are not associated with the U.S.S.R anymore.

How to send goods to Estonia from China?
Q. I have one container to send to Estonia. What kind of transportation should I take? And how?
Asked by Mayflower - Tue Mar 3 02:53:09 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It will depend on how much volume and weight your goods have. It you have large quantity, say couple tone, you may want to ship them through a freight forwarder even if total volume is less than a container. You tell them you need loose cargo shipping. If you have only small quantity like 20 pounds, you really should try UPS, DHL or Fedex.

How long does it take to get from Tallinn airport in Estonia to Saaremaa island?
Q. I am trying to get to Kuressaare on the island of Saaremaa from Tallin airport. So do I understand correctly that you... 1) Take a taxi to the Tallin bus station 2) Then take the bus to Virtsu port 3) Then a 30 min ferry ride to the island? Does anyone know how much time I should budget for this entire process from the moment I get off the plane? Thanks!
Asked by Littlechickenman - Mon Mar 30 18:20:19 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. That really depends on if you go during rush hour or not. The whole place is an absolute mess during that time. I never rode the bus though but I imagine that will add even more time. Better give yourself two hours but I don't know how often buses go that way. It would be far easier and quicker to take a private taxi that way. PS the ferry goes to Muhu Island and I don't think it takes more than 15 min.

A. You'd have to layover in Frankfurt or some other city. I've been to both places and miss them. Tallinn is a cool town, but it's more relaxed in the DR.

How long does it take to swim from Finland to Estonia?
Q. one way? Hi Aurora, you're right, but why to keep women in the background? There were six competitors, five man and a woman. Anyhow, points are yours.
Asked by GPapenburg - Sun Jul 27 17:48:11 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. Some days ago 6 Estonians really tried that (I suppose you have heard of it already). The best swimmer made it in 19 hours and about 20 minutes. The other one who made it, did it in over 22 hours. The other 4 men did not have the strength to do it, so they were taken home by boat. An unbelievable achievement by the two Estonian men who did it swimming from Finland to Estonia.

Opinions on the removal of the statue in Estonia?
Q. So, what do you think? Is it right for Estonia to remove the statue dedicated to those who died in WW2 when fighting against fascisim. Can you mention ethics, morality?
Asked by Lume - Sat Apr 28 08:17:05 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. My thoughts on the matter are Estonia, as a sovereign State, has the right to move the statute wherever they choose to put it. The war memorial doesn t affect anyone else besides Estonia, plus the elected representatives of Estonia decided to move the statute from the city center to a war cemetery. Estonia gained independence from the Soviet Union after 1991, so it's their prerogative to do what they think is right. Estonia was occupied for about 50 years by the Soviet Union, so I can understand Estonia desire to remove the items that remind them of the hardships under Soviet Communism, much like Iraq did tearing down statutes and pictures of Saddam Hussein. Another example is Germany and Nazism. After WWII, Germany completely… [cont.]

If somebody carries an illegal weapon and wants to fly from Nigeria to Estonia?
Q. Will the weapon be confiscated by the airport security or he doesn't get any trouble at all ?
Asked by miami5beat - Mon Oct 13 15:41:50 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. He could be arrested in Nigeria, which would be really bad, or in Estonia, probably just as bad, or somewhere in between, probably bad. If he has an illegal weapon, his best bet is to get rid of it prior to going to the airport in Nigeria. The cops there carry machine guns and there is no writ of hebeas corpus. Regards, Dan

Is it local to call an Estonia landline from Latvia?
Q. If not, how much is it?
Asked by florem - Fri Oct 12 12:24:49 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, it's not local. The cost depends on the telephone company and the tariff plan. For example, with Lattelecom (the largerst landline telephone company in Latvia), with the most expensive tariff plan, during business hours (monday - friday 07:00 - 20:00), the cost is 0,236 Latvian Lats per minute; with other tariff plans it is cheaper. With Baltcom - another landline telephone company - the cost is 0,08 Latvian Lats per minute.

A. You only need your U.S.Passport to visit Estonia. I live in the US and I have to disagree with one of the previous answers. Though food is cheap in Estonia, I would not make plans to go shopping for clothes over there since they are actually more expensive than in the US. Also, Estonia has never been part of Russia. Estonia, along with other countries was occupied by Russia which formed the USSR. Thereafter, Estonia was (not by choice) one of the states of the USSR. Estonia reclaimed its independence in 1991 and has been doing great ever since. Have a great trip.
